Whilst my Mum was staying with us not so long ago I noticed her playingwith Tabitha with a pile of cannellini beans (Tabitha often plays with them wheilst I’m making bean-bags which I sell in my store – Tabitha and Hugo) and when Tabitha asked to play with my stash of buttons I thought we’d do the same – she really loves doing this!………..
We poured all the buttons on the floor and after she had taken time to play with them herself; examining them, organising them, making pictures with them etc, we set to learning some letters and numbers. I would spread all of the buttons on the floor and then write a letter or a number in them where she had to guess what it was that I was drawing. We went on to making shapes, pictures, Christmas trees etc. and also used them to make her hand and foot prints in them.
